Collision and Tesla Repair for Federal Way

Murray's CARSTAR Collision is about 12 minutes north of Federal Way at 22001 Pacific Hwy S in Des Moines, straight up the same highway. We are a Tesla Approved Collision Center and an I-CAR Gold Class shop, we repair every make and model, and estimates are free.

Why Drivers Come North

Federal Way Has Body Shops. It Does Not Have a Certified Tesla Shop.

There is no shortage of collision shops along Pacific Highway South in Federal Way, and for a lot of repairs any competent one will do. Where it stops being true is a Tesla, an aluminum-bodied vehicle, or any car whose driver assistance sensors were behind the panel that got hit. Tesla approves individual facilities, and the nearest approved shop to Federal Way is ours. What that actually buys you is access to genuine Tesla OEM parts, the published repair procedure for your specific VIN rather than a generic method, technicians trained on aluminum and high-strength steel, and the equipment to recalibrate the cameras and radar afterward. At 4.8 stars across more than 800 reviews we are also one of the busiest shops in the south end, which is usually why parts move faster here than people expect.

Getting Here

Twelve Minutes Up Pacific Highway South

Federal Way to Des Moines is about eight miles and there is no complicated part to it.

Straight Up Highway 99

Pacific Highway South runs from Federal Way to our front door without a single turn. From The Commons or the Highway 99 corridor it is about 12 minutes. We are on the highway at S 220th Street, just south of Kent Des Moines Road.

I-5 If You Are Coming From the East Side

From Twin Lakes, Lakeland, or the I-5 side of town, north to exit 149 and then west on Kent Des Moines Road (SR 516) is quicker than the arterial. Turn south onto Pacific Highway South and we are a little over a mile down.

From Dash Point and the Water

From Dash Point, Redondo, or Marine Hills, take 16th Ave S or Marine View Drive north. Redondo Beach is effectively the line between Federal Way and Des Moines, so from there we are closer than most shops in your own city.

Towing and Rentals

If your car cannot be driven, have it towed from Federal Way to our Des Moines shop. Our towing partner, Pete's Towing, can bring it in, or your insurer or roadside assistance can arrange the tow. Just give the tow driver a key. A tow truck can drop it off after hours. Tesla customers can ask about our VIP concierge fleet, subject to availability. Call (206) 824-8454 to set either one up.

The Part That Gets Skipped

Highway Damage Usually Means Recalibration

A lot of what we see from Federal Way comes off I-5 and Highway 99: rear-end hits in stopped traffic, merge damage down one side, deer and debris strikes on the southern stretches. Any of those can involve more than one panel, and once more than one panel or a lamp or a fascia is involved, the cameras, radar, and ultrasonic sensors behind them generally have to be recalibrated before the vehicle is safe to hand back. On a Tesla it is a documented requirement after structural or glass work. On most modern vehicles from any manufacturer it applies to bumper covers and mirrors too, because that is where the sensors live. We do the recalibration in house, document it, and give you the paperwork with the car. More detail is in our guide to Tesla ADAS calibration.

Claims and Coverage

Your Insurer Cannot Choose Your Shop for You

Washington law gives you the right to choose your own repair shop, whoever you are insured with. Your insurance company can suggest one from its list; it cannot require you to use it, and picking us does not slow your claim or add cost. We work with all insurance companies, both inside our direct repair program network and outside it, coordinate directly with your adjuster, document the repair plan, and file the supplement ourselves if disassembly uncovers damage nobody could see at the estimate. On a covered claim, most customers pay their deductible and nothing else. Our insurance page covers the process, and our warranty page covers what protects the work afterward: the Murray's Collision Group limited lifetime warranty on workmanship for as long as you own the vehicle, plus CARSTAR's Limited Five-Year Nationwide Warranty on repairs completed at our Des Moines shop.

Questions From Federal Way Customers

Federal Way Repair FAQ

About 12 minutes and roughly eight miles from the Highway 99 corridor near The Commons. Pacific Highway South runs from Federal Way directly to our shop, so it is one road the whole way. If you are on the I-5 side of town, north to exit 149 and west on Kent Des Moines Road is usually faster. From Redondo or Dash Point we are closer than a lot of shops inside Federal Way city limits.

No. Tesla grants collision approval to individual facilities rather than to companies or regions, and no shop in Federal Way holds it. Ours in Des Moines is the closest one, about 12 minutes north. You do not have to take that on our word: Tesla publishes its own collision center directory, and our Tesla repair page links straight to it so you can verify any shop's certification independently, including ours.

Yes. Start with a free photo estimate from home and we can tell you what we are looking at. Treat it as a starting point rather than a final number, because damage behind a panel does not show up in a photograph, so we confirm it in person before work begins. Tesla owners are also welcome to walk in during business hours with no appointment.

Yes, every make and model, including gas vehicles, hybrids, and non-Tesla EVs. Those repairs are carried out at our Burien facility, operated by Murray's Collision Group, following the same OEM-approved procedures and backed by the same limited lifetime warranty. Your free estimate is written at our Des Moines shop. Burien is not a walk-in location, so we arrange that drop-off with you over the phone.

Yes. We work with all insurance companies, both inside our direct repair program network and outside it, and we bill most major carriers directly. Whether a shop is on your carrier's preferred list affects billing paperwork, not the quality of the repair or the warranty behind it, and Washington law lets you choose your own shop regardless. Call (206) 824-8454 with your carrier and we will tell you how your claim will run.

Most repairs run about 7 to 10 business days once parts are in hand. Multiple panels, structural work, or a VIN-specific part on backorder push it out further. As a Tesla Approved Collision Center we have access to roughly 90% of Tesla parts by the next day, which removes the most common cause of delay. You get updates as the repair moves, and a target delivery date once the plan is approved and the parts have arrived.
